Zaragata

The expansion pack that talks

Play a card. Hear the rule.

Put Zaragata stickers on the cards you already own and play your usual game. When someone plays a loaded card, they tap it on the phone and a character announces its rule to the whole table. It's rarely good news for them.

The phone at the table, reading out a rule said by The Warlord

What a loaded card says

Some help you. Some wreck you.

Every rule set is written by people and read out by one of the characters. A few from the library:

The Doomsayer
The Hammer

Choose a player. They draw ten cards.

Said by The Doomsayer

The Boss
Trade Places

Swap your entire hand with any player.

Said by The Boss

The Vamp
Forbidden Word

Ban any word for the rest of the game. Whoever says it draws one.

Said by The Vamp

The Warlord
Elbow Check

Everyone with an elbow on the table right now draws two.

How a night goes

Same game. New trouble.

  1. A roll of Zaragata stickers

    Stick, once

Put a sticker on about twenty cards of a game you own, on the front so you can see it while you play, and tap each one on your phone to add it. A few minutes, and the deck stays loaded.

  2. The app picking rule sets to deal

    Pick the rules and deal

Open the app and pick a rule set somebody wrote, one you made, or a mix. Press Deal and every loaded card gets a rule. Nobody knows what went where, including you.

  3. Play like you always do

Same game, same rules you know. The only difference is the loaded cards, and anyone could be holding one.

  4. The phone reading out a rule

Tap it, and somebody's in trouble

When a loaded card is played, tap it on the phone and a character reads its rule out loud to the whole table. Rules that last stay in play, and Zaragata keeps track so nobody has to argue.

Friends write too

Send your friends a link before the night and let them write rules about each other. They don't need the app for that, and you keep the good ones.

Next time

Your cards stay loaded. Pick different rules and deal again: same cards, a different night.

Questions people ask

Do my friends need the app?

No. One phone runs the whole game, and everyone at the table hears every rule. Friends who want to hold their own cards and see them on their own phones join with the app.

Which phones does it work on?

Android phones and iPhones. Any recent phone that can pay by tapping can read the cards.

Which games does it work with?

Any game with cards in it. Card games are the natural fit, and board games that come with a deck work too. Zaragata does not change the game, it adds to it: you play by the rules you already know, plus the ones on the cards. The library lists rule sets by game, written by the people who play them. Zaragata is not affiliated with the makers of those games.

Is it for kids?

No. Zaragata is for players 18 and over.

All the questions

A zaragata is a loud, laughing row around the table. Deal the cards and start one.
