House rules for Monopoly

Zaragata has 40 house rules for Monopoly in 2 rule sets, such as Eminent Domain, Protection Money, and Rent Hike. Read them here. At the table, a character reads each rule out loud the moment its card is played, usually at a friend's expense.

The Boss
Eminent Domain

Choose any property another player owns, with no houses or hotels anywhere in its colour set. Pay them its printed price and it is yours.

Said by The Boss

The Sheriff
Protection Money

For the rest of the game, anyone who lands on Free Parking pays you 50.

Said by The Sheriff

The Enforcer
Rent Hike

For the rest of the game, rent on the most expensive property you own is doubled.

Look at the top three cards of both the Chance and the Community Chest piles, then put them back in any order you like.

Said by The Vamp

Express Lane

Move your token forward to the next property nobody owns. You may buy it for half its printed price. If every property is owned, stay put.

Said by The Doorman

The Clerk

The next time you are sent to Jail, ____ goes instead, and you stay where you are.

(the name is filled at the table)

The Arbiter
Heads I Win

Own nothing they could take? Tails costs you nothing.

Said by The Arbiter

The Warlord
Rent Day

Every other player pays you rent right now, as if they had landed on the most expensive property you own.

Own nothing yet? Each of them pays you 50 instead.

Said by The Warlord

The Night Nurse
Foreclosure

The bank takes back your cheapest property, its houses go back to the bank unpaid, and the property is auctioned right now. The winning bid goes to the bank, and you may not bid.

Own nothing? Nothing happens.

Said by The Night Nurse

The Auditor
Small Print

If the card you just drew paid you money, hand it all back to the bank. If it charged you, pay it again.

If it did neither, pay the bank 50.

Said by The Auditor

Solitary

Go directly to Jail and do not pass Go. Until you get out, you collect no rent.
